Bacon Apple Crisp Recipe

Bacon Apple Crisp
So, my apple crisp passed the "church potluck test" and to celebrate I'm posting my recipe! For all of you bacon-lovers:

Bacon Apple Crisp

Topping:

1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
3/4 cup oats
1/2 cup butter
1/2 lb. bacon, cooked and broken into bits. (Don't buy bacon bits... they're fake.)

Filling Part:

1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
4 cups sliced or cubed apples
1 cup water
1 tsp. vanilla
2 TB cornstarch

Instructions:

1. Mix first three topping ingredients. Cut in butter, then add bacon bits. Set aside.
2. Mix all filling ingredients; heat until everything is blended and smooth (i.e. no cornstarch lumps).
3. Put filling in baking dish; leave enough room for topping. Sprinkle topping over the filling. The topping might be more like a dough- don't worry about this. Just do the best you can to get an even layer on top.
4. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45-55 minutes. Cool and enjoy! Or don't cool and enjoy with ice cream!
