Foraging 101 Finale: Frog Legs!!

To finish up my foraging series, I've arranged for my brothers to do a guest post on finding and processing bull frogs. All about preparing frog legs:

1. Catching. First you get a hook, and then you get a piece of tin foil and make the tin foil look like wings on the hook. Then you jiggle it in front of the bullfrog's face. It will bite the tin foil, and then you jerk it up and put it on land. Then you catch it and put it in a cooler.

2. Killing. The best way to kill it would probably be to get a knife and jab it in the head.

3. Preparation of Legs. You get a pair of hedge trimmers and make a cut to separate the legs from the body. Also cut the 'flippers' from the legs.

4. Skinning. Make a small notch in the skin at the top of the thigh. Then run the tip of your thumb between the meat and the skin, and peel off the skin.

5. Bagging. Put the clean legs in a ziplock bag. Press out all the air and zip up the bag. The legs can then be frozen or cooked fresh.

Happy frogging! Happy happy happy!

My First Stuffed Burger

I'm not an expert at making hamburgers. I tried one time in my mid-teens, and all of my patties puffed up like little meatballs instead of flat, bun-worthy burgers. However, whilst on vacation I was flipping through a magazine and found an article on different types of burgers. Square ones, sliders, stuffed- you name it. So I got on this burger kick and set out to get my burger skillz up to par. Or at least to the place where my patties were flat and not pink inside.
I also tried some of the variations- stuffed being one of them. I don't think it turned out too bad, though the finished product separated a little bit and looked like a burger-sandwich. Like the StrawBurger, this one was eaten paleo style with tomato garnish, but featuring cheese and pesto. It was incredible!

Strawberry Barbeque Sauce

It's the StrawBurger!
A few weeks ago I read about a novel concept regarding burgers... or more specifically, barbeque sauce. The sauce recipe included raspberries! I thought that was a pretty cool idea, so I tried a variation for dinner one night.

It was super easy-  I just mixed:

1 TB strawberry jam
1 TB barbeque sauce

and put it on the burger with cheese (I like cheese). Then I ate it paleo-style without the bun; fresh, chewy, juicy burger. It was, to be quite frank... amazing.

If I were totally awesome I would have made my own barbeque sauce from scratch, but I've got to leave room for improvement somewhere. ;)
